About Gambit ID
Pioneering Security Screening and Background Checks Since 2010
Beginnings
Founded by Kory L. McAndrew in 2010, Gambit ID began as a consulting firm supporting Industry Canada (now Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada). With deep roots in biometric technology, Kory brought firsthand experience from developing the Real-Time Identification System (RTID) as a contractor with Fujitsu Consulting (Canada) Inc.
In 2012, Gambit ID returned to its RTID origins—this time delivering the multi-million-dollar Temporary Resident Biometrics Project (TRBP) for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Working alongside Mike Upton, Kory helped secure and implement the solution, laying the foundation for Gambit ID’s future.
In 2013, Mike joined Gambit ID after a 20-year career at Fujitsu Consulting. Together, Kory and Mike shifted the company’s focus to biometric software development and services. Their first product, Gambit ID Scan™, became an RCMP-certified livescan/cardscan application for transmitting biometric transactions. That same year, Gambit ID earned RCMP accreditation, enabling direct integration with RTID for certified criminal record checks.
Building the Future of Security Screening
As Gambit ID expanded its fingerprinting offices across the National Capital Region, it identified a need for a smarter way to manage client workflows. This led to the creation of Gambit ID Check™, a flexible, workflow-driven platform designed to streamline background checks and security screening.
With support for the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) Directive on Security Screening, Gambit ID Check™ revolutionized the industry. Departments and Crown corporations reduced Reliability Status processing times from weeks to minutes. Secret and Top Secret clearances saw similar improvements, thanks to automated workflows and reduced errors in CSIS interactions.
Today, Gambit ID Check™ is trusted by:
- Numerous Government of Canada departments
- Crown corporations
- Provincial governments
- Non-profit organizations
- Hundreds of private-sector companies
In 2025, Gambit ID was awarded a Canadian patent for its proprietary method of performing security screening, background checks, and identity verification.
Expansion
In 2022, Gambit ID opened its U.S. headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. The company is now bringing its proven solutions to American federal and state law enforcement agencies—starting with Gambit ID Scan Mobile™, a touchless fingerprinting solution that captures and digitizes biometric data using standard Apple or Android smartphones, with no additional hardware required.Copyright © 2025, Gambit ID
